Bohlsen Group executes “unified marketing for good” for clients across the country that share their values and mission, creating and implementing marketing and publicity applications for corporations, not-for-profit organizations, entertainers and events.
Vicki started her career as an affiliate relations coordinator for CBS Television Network in New York City, and then went on to produce special projects for NBC affiliate WTHR-TV in Indianapolis and direct publicity for The Promotion Company, a marketing and PR firm specializing in live event entertainment before she embarked on her own as a freelancer for almost twenty years while raising her kids.
After Vicki’s three kids were all in school, she joined TrendyMinds in 2007 as a principal/partner to start up and head its public relations division with an umbrella company called TrendyMinds PR. In February 2010, Vicki’s business partner decided to concentrate fully on TrendyMinds and relinquished his shares to Vicki. Vicki then changed the company’s name to BohlsenPR and operated as such for a little more than a year while the company grew and evolved daily.
At the start of 2012, BohlsenPR changed its name to Bohlsen Group to account for its ever-expanding staff, client list and service offerings.
In 2014, Bohlsen Group became the only B Corp certified company in Indiana, a designation from B Lab that endorses commitment to corporate social responsibility. They were re-certified in 2016. Bohlsen Group was also certified as a Women Business Enterprise in 2016.
Vicki loves Indianapolis and doing business as a force for good! Prior to the B Corp designation, Bohlsen Group provided dozens of clients with pro bono services. Now, as a standard protocol, Bohlsen Group provides reduced rates to nonprofits, B Corp certified and Benefit Corporation companies and gives 10% in services back to each. In 2016, Bohlsen Group gave nearly 10% of its revenue back to the community in in-kind services and partnerships.
Vicki’s commitment to social responsibility has become a true passion. Alongside consultant, “Taking Care in Business” co-host Kathy Pedrotti Hays, who suggested and helped Bohlsen Group obtain B Corp certification status, she has traveled the state to talk on the topic. They are currently writing a book geared to educating small businesses on how to incorporate CSR into their organizational culture and business processes.
Vicki takes social responsibility seriously and proclaims their B Corp certification helps to keep the company accountable to its every decision both internally with staff and externally with clients, vendors, the environment, and the community. Bohlsen Group has been named one of Indiana’s “Best Places to Work”.
Vicki volunteers time and leadership to several community organizations. Currently, she volunteers time with Girls Inc., Indianapolis Children’s Choir, Donte Moncrief Gamechanger Foundation, Pass the Torch Foundation, Spirit & Place Festival, and the IUPUI School of Liberal Arts. Vicki remains involved in the Hamilton Southeastern and South Madison County school corporations where two of her three children (ages 16 and 13) attend school. Another child (19) is a second year student at Oberlin College.
It is Vicki’s hope that the “Taking Care in Business” podcast will help to educate listeners on corporate social responsibility and ignite a fuel inside to work for or help create a workplace for others that rely on the triple bottom line and not just the bottom line.
