Shama Amalean is the Chief Operating Officer at THINX – a company committed to breaking the taboo surrounding menstruation.
THINX believes that every single girl should have an equal opportunity for the brighter future she deserves and are reimagining feminine hygiene products to provide support, comfort, confidence, and peace of mind. THINX aims to eliminate shame and empower girls around the world.
THINX launched its first product in May of 2015 with a patented undergarment that is absorbent, leak and stain-proof, anti-microbial and moisture-wicking.
Because feminine hygiene is also a big issue in the developing world and is causing millions of girls to drop out of school, each pair of THINX sold funds the production of one pack of washable, reusable cloth pads for a girl in a developing country.
THINX’s next patents are going to replace existing wasteful tampon applicators and uncomfortable pads to more current, environmental and thoughtfully designed products.
Customers are raving about the period-proof underwear saying they are “a game changer,” “hands down amazing” and the “best purchase they ever made”. SHAPE, marieclaire, InStyle, SELF and many more magazines have given rave reviews. TIME named the undergarments “one of the best inventions of 2015, making the world better, smarter and a little more fun”.
Listen in as we talk to Shama about how THINX’s unique product, unique brand and unique impact is disrupting the $19 billion feminine hygiene industry with its continued expansion.
