“Once we show gratitude, we often emerge out of our own pain and suffering.”
Jillian Ashton and the Indiana Canine Assistant Network (ICAN) are taking the saying “man’s best friend” to the next level. Through the process of training and placing service dogs, ICAN connects two groups in need: those living with disabilities and offenders wanting to successfully reintegrate back into the workforce after release. This dual mission is achieved by selecting incarcerated adults to be full time trainers responsible for taking care of future service dogs. After training is complete, the dogs are paired with clients in need of their specific skill sets.
Vicki and Kathy talk with Jillian to learn more about how ICAN’s unique programming came to be and why the organization has grown to find incredible success. Jillian shares why she was called to become ICAN’s president and introduces Vicki and Kathy to Jim Dandy, her latest trainee. Listen in to hear amazing success stories about both offenders and service dog clients, and to learn how you can help support ICAN’s mission.
