David Barrett is chairman, president, and chief executive officer of the Gene B. Glick Company

Episode 2: David Barrett from Gene B. Glick Company

Eugene B. Glick started his real estate ownership and management firm in 1947 with a commitment to integrity, quality construction, excellent service, and superbly maintained communities. In addition to Gene B. Glick Company’s commitment to providing quality housing for people of all income levels, in 1982, he and his wife, Marilyn, established the Glick Family Foundation, now known as Glick Philanthropies.

Today, David Barrett – grandson-in-law of Eugene and Marilyn – runs not only the privately-held real estate ownership and management firm, but the organization that holds more than $600 million in charitable assets in the various entities under the Glick Philanthropies umbrella, each with a specific focus: Glick Family Foundation; Gene B. Glick Family Housing Foundation; Glick Fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis; and Glick Fund of Central Indiana Community Foundation.

Gene B. Glick Company is one of the largest privately held real estate management and development firms in the United States, with more than 20,000 units in 13 states. Glick Philanthropies has donated over $150 million to various organizations and initiatives.

Listen in to learn how David Barrett creates opportunity and builds community by living the “our business is family” mantra on a daily basis with programs such as Glick Gives, which matches qualified charitable contributions from Glick employees to not-for-profit organizations.

  1. you run a profit organization, giving money out instead of up grading your property in Laporte In I live at Cambridge Square where the electrical system is faulty(we just had a FIRE because of that & the plumbing is terrible,,,inside building worn down NO EMERGENCY GENERATOR for so many residents on oxygen..
This place is a semi type care facility
YOU KEEP OUT SIDE UP,,WE DON’T LIVE OUTSIDE!!!!
YOU GET FULL PRICE OR BETTER FOR THESE APTS,,, YOU ARN’T DOING A THING FOR US HUD IS!!!!!!!
    TOILETS BACKING UP ETC ETC
MAINTENANCE DOESN’T REALLY FIX THINGS RIGS THEM,, OLD USED PARTS USED ,,ETC ETC ETC
    HUD SHOULD CUT YOU OF

  2. HUD needs to give surveys out ,not you as they are meaningless
with Cambridge Square in Laporte turning into a caregiving place,,why is there smoking,,,good percentage of these people are ill,,,,their on walkers,,canes, wheelchairs,,,hospice,,oxygen etc

handicap parking a joke,,not enough anymore sense this went from a Independent place to a care giving facility

one area of handicap parking is flooded a good part of the time & that’s the only handicap area on that side of building

Hud told Assistant Propeety Manager in 2015 that was unacceptable & TO GET IT FIXED,,,,,WAS NEVER TAKEN CARE OF & YOU SAY YOU CARE,,,YOUR GETTING FULL PRICE FOR THESE APARTMENTS OR BETTER,,,HUD KEEPS YOUR APARTMENTS FULL,,THAT’S WHY YOU HOOKED UP WITH THEM
GENE GLICK WOULD HAVE NEVER STOOD FOR THIS,,,,
I’M GOING TO ASK HUD WHY THEY HOOK UP WITH A PROFIT ORGANIZATION
YOU KEEP OUT SIDE LOOKING SHARP & OFFICE,,,,,,DECEPTION FOR THE 134 RESIDENTS WHO PUT UP WITH A BUILDING THAT IS OLD ,,WORN OUT,,NOT CLEANED WELL,,MAINTENANCE DOES LEAST AS IT CAN TO KEEP ON YOUR CHEAP BUDGET,,WHILE YOU GIVE OIT MONEY TO EVERYONE ELSE
HEY HUD GIVES YOU THAT MONEY TO MAINTAIN YOUR APARTMENTS WHICH BY THE WAY,,IF YOU RENTED THEM OUT YOURSELF YOU WOULD NEVER GET $735 NEVER THESE ARE WORTH NO MORE THAN $600 AT BEST
IT’S HUD THAT GIVES US THE PERKS NOT YOU,,,
YOU NEED TO TAKE THAT HUD MONEY & CLEAN UP THE INSIDE OF THESE BUILDINGS TO MAKE THEM SAFE
GET MORE WORKERS,,,I KNOW WORKER’S GET PERKS,,, YOU NEED TO PAY THEM OVERTIME,,SO THEY AREN’T OFF ALL THE TIME & GIVE THEM MORE HELP.
SEEMS LIKE EVERYONE THAT WORKS FOR GLICK BENEFITS,,,EXCEPT THE VERY PEOPLE YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO BE PROVIDING FOR,,,AS YOU GET THE MONEY,,,GO NON PROFIT & THEN YOU CAN DO WHAT YOUR SUPPOSE TO DO,,,NOT GIVE OUT HUD MONEY TO OTHER PLACES,
